With a view to the growing field of applications for high-shear mixers in the biopharmaceutical industries, a magnetically driven high-shear mixer was characterized and improved. With a focus on the optimization of the stator design, a test series was carried out, determining the droplet size distribution as the key performance indicator for emulsion production.
Furthermore, the successful use of a high-shear mixer in the homogenization of a suspension is described. The detailed studies lay the foundation for the individual development of an optimized high shear mixer setup for each highly specific mixing task.
