Colombia’s successful quest to cure river blindness

In July, Colombia's Government announced it had become the first country in the world to completely eliminate onchocerciasis, also known as river blindness. This milestone serves as a model of success for other Latin American and African nations working to eliminate the parasitic disease, which can cause severe visual impairment and permanent blindness.
