Canada’s pharma industry registered an 11.2% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 8.63% in May 2022 when compared with April 2022.

Out of the pharma industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 1.31% share in May 2022, recording a decrease of 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s pharma industry’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s pharma industry in May 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 34.38% in May 2022, registering a 33.33% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 26.56% share, a flat growth over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 15.63%, registering a 47.37% decline from April 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 14.06%, down 40% over the previous month.

Top five pharma companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 12.9% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s pharma industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Alberta Health Services posted 14 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 36.36% over the previous month, followed by Mitacs with 6 jobs and a flat growth. Penticton Regional Hospital with 6 IT jobs and McKesson with 5 jobs, recorded a 20% growth and a 25% growth, respectively, while Bayer recorded a flat growth with 4 job postings during May 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 67.19%, down by 35.82% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 17.19% share, registered a flat growth compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 15.63% share, down 52.38% over April 2022.
