Canada’s pharma industry registered a 15.4% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 7.46% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the pharma industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 1.56% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 0.21% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s pharma industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.87% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s pharma industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 39.36% in December 2021, registering a 30.19% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 25.53% share, an increase of 14.29% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 14.89%, registering a 64.1% decline from November 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 11.7%, up 83.33% over the previous month.

Top five pharma companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 13.51% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s pharma industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

Bausch Health Companies posted 22 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a drop of 40.54% over the previous month, followed by Alberta Health Services with 19 jobs and a 24% drop. Penticton Regional Hospital with 11 IT jobs and Recursion Pharmaceuticals with 6 jobs, recorded a 175% growth and a 200% growth, respectively, while McKesson recorded a flat growth with 6 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 63.83%, down by 31.03% from November 2021. Entry Level positions with a 20.21% share, registered an increase of 35.71% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 14.89% share, down 26.32% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 1.06%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
