The global pharma industry noticed a 14.7% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by Intermountain Healthcare’s 9.79% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity declined 13.62% when compared with October 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.86% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 0.17% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 18.67% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 40.03% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive pharma IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 34.56% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in November 2022, a 33.1% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 21.86% in November 2022, down 20.19% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 21.75% share in November 2022, a decline of 45.24% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.88% share in November 2022 and a drop of 42.61% over October 2022.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in November 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 4.41% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during November 2022 over October 2022.
Intermountain Healthcare posted 269 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a rise of 55.49% over the previous month, followed by CVS Health with 125 jobs and a 17.22% decline. Bausch Health Companies with 109 IT jobs and Eurofins Scientific with 107 jobs, recorded a 30.57% decline and a 35.54% drop, respectively, while AstraZeneca recorded a 3.96% rise with 105 job postings during November 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 68.86% share, which marked a 34.93% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 18.22%, registering a 49.75% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 10.77% share and a 23.91% drop over October 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.24% and a month-on-month drop of 29.17%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.87%, registering a 4% decrease over the previous month.
