The global pharma industry noticed a 3.8% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by Intermountain Healthcare’s 10.85% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity declined 4.11% when compared with June 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.26% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, up 0.05% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 7.27% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 17.28% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive pharma IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 41.6% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in July 2022, an 8.16% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 20.99% in July 2022, down 29.85% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 17.55% share in July 2022, a decline of 21.92% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 11.01% share in July 2022 and a drop of 16.37% over June 2022.

Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 13.94% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

Intermountain Healthcare posted 423 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 26.56% over the previous month, followed by The Hastings Center with 199 jobs and a 17.77% decline. Johnson & Johnson with 169 IT jobs and AstraZeneca with 141 jobs, recorded a 38.55% decline and a 5.22% rise, respectively, while UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center recorded a flat growth with 124 job postings during July 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 72.44% share, which marked a 22.7% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 13.65%, registering a 7.32% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 12.01% share and a 2.5% drop over June 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.03% and a month-on-month rise of 29.03%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.87%, registering a 54.55% increase over the previous month.
