The UK’s pharma industry registered a 2.5% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 8.73% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.

Out of the pharma industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.48% share in September 2021, recording an increase of 0.06% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s pharma industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 102.17% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s pharma industry in September 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 54.35% in September 2021, registering a 16.28% flat growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 17.39% share, an increase of 23.08% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 13.04%, registering a 71.43% rise from August 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 9.78%, down 59.09% over the previous month.

Top five pharma companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 20% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s pharma industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Almac Group posted 18 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 200% over the previous month, followed by GlaxoSmithKline with 14 jobs and a 55.56% growth. Charles River Laboratories International with 8 IT jobs and AstraZeneca with 8 jobs, recorded a 33.33% flat growth and a 33.33% decrease, respectively, while Parexel International recorded a decline of 50% with 6 job postings during September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 45.65%, up by 5% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 43.48% share, registered an increase of 37.93% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 9.78% share, down 59.09% over August 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 1.09%, recording a month-on-month decline of 66.67%.
