Qualcomm Inc carries out the development and commercialisation of foundational technologies for the wireless industry. The company’s portfolio includes products for processors, modems, platforms, radio-frequency (RF) systems and connectivity. Qualcomm operates its business through three segments – Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) semiconductor business, Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) licensing business, and Qualcomm Strategic Initiatives (QSI). Qualcomm’s other business segments include Qualcomm Government Technologies (QGOV), cloud artificial intelligence (AI) inference processing initiative, and other technology and service initiatives. QCT develops and supplies integrated circuits and system software based on 3G/4G/5G and other technologies for use in wireless voice and data communications, networking, computing, multimedia, and global positioning system (GPS) products. The QTL segment grants licenses and provides rights to use portions of the company’s intellectual property portfolio, which, among other rights, includes certain patent rights essential to and/or useful in the manufacture, sale and/or use of certain wireless products, including, without limitation, products implementing CDMA2000, wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA), long-term evolution (LTE) and/or orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based 5G standards and their derivatives. The company’s QSI segment makes strategic investments through Qualcomm Ventures and strives to expand or capture new opportunities for its technologies and aid the design and introduction of new products and services.
