The UK Government has signed two separate agreements to secure access to 60 million doses of Novavax’s and 30 million doses of Janssen’s Covid-19 vaccine candidates. The government also committed to support certain clinical trials of these candidates. If successful in trials, the vaccine candidates are expected to be delivered to the UK mid next year. These deals provide the UK with access to a total of six Covid-19 vaccine candidates.
The Emirati APEX National Investment firm entered into a strategic commercial agreement with Israel-based Tera Group for Covid-19-focused research and development, according to UAE’s state news agency WAM. The partners intend to work on the development of a treatment and vaccine against the disease, along with a testing device.
The European Commission (EC) has concluded an agreement with AstraZeneca for the supply of up to 400 million doses of the potential Covid-19 vaccine, AZD1222. The agreement provides all European Union (EU) member states the option to access the vaccine; EU member states will also be able to redirect doses to other European countries.
Healthcare supply chain management firm McKesson is set to serve as a centralised distributor of future Covid-19 vaccines and ancillary supplies required for vaccinations in the US. This expands the company’s existing contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and supports the US Government’s Operation Warp Speed programme.
