Essentra Launch First Apprenticeship Programme

Essentra has announced that it will launch its first National Apprenticeship Programme across its Bradford, Bristol, Kidlington, Kilmarnock, Newmarket, Newport, Nottingham, and Portsmouth sites.

The programme will provide 20 apprentices the opportunity to learn key skills in the settling, printing, and finishing industries.

The first ten placements will start in May this year, while a second intake will begin in October. Comprised of a selection of vocationally recognised qualifications (VRQ) and technical, functional, and soft skill modules, the programme will take 36 months to complete, providing participants with a level three qualification.

Working in partnership with industry-recognised training delivery providers, apprentices will receive one-to-one theory-based training from an assigned on-site facilitator, gaining core skills and support with their transition from education to a working environment.

Successful candidates will receive a competitive salary and, subject to performance, a pay increase on a regular basis throughout their apprenticeship. Upon successful completion of the three-year programme, apprentices are guaranteed a permanent job at Essentra.

The company’s group HR director Gavin Leathem said: "We very much see this programme as an opportunity for anyone that wants to choose a different path, away from full time further education at college or university, to continue their studies while learning key skills in a real job from day one.

"Essentra is committed to providing its apprentices with a professional and open working environment, to realise their full potential and enjoy a rewarding and varied career."

Essentra’s head of HR in the UK Richard Elford added: "Currently, the average age of employees across our manufacturing sites within the UK is increasing, and we need to ensure that we continue to attract new talent, particularly into our skilled operational roles.

"At Essentra, we understand the importance of discovering and inspiring talent and believe that this programme will encourage the next generation of printers, operators, and setters to become a part of the UK’s vibrant manufacturing industry. We are excited to launch our inaugural National Apprenticeship Programme, and look forward to welcoming our new apprentices to the Essentra team."

Applications for Essentra’s new programme close on 5 May.
