Organoids can be defined as a 3D culture of heterogenous cells that self-organise and function in a similar way to an organ.

They are made from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), embryonic stem cells (ESCs), or adult stem cells (ASCs) and can be sustained longterm through passaging without altering genetic and phenotypic characteristics.
