Origin Pharma Packaging talks child safety compliance and how it helps eradicate unsafe packaging in the UK pharmacy market.

Origin Pharma Packaging works on a global scale, with its UK headquarters in Melton and innovation offices in New York, London, and Glasgow, as well as strategic manufacturing sites across Europe and the US. Working with global pharmaceutical companies worldwide, the company also works alongside large Blue Chip pharmacy corporations within the UK.

Historically, companies bought caps from one source and the bottles from another, making the pack non-compliant and reducing traceability within pharmaceutical packaging. Origin Pharma Packaging’s innovative product examples below ensure the cap and bottle are from the same source, providing child compliant packaging.

Medopac and Unopac are accredited to ISO:8317:2004 and BS1679:8 and are manufactured in controlled conditions. Its bottle and cap are recyclable, which maintains its integrity in being sustainable for the environment. Their pack designs are stamped with a UV code to drive integrity and traceability. This ensures the product is fully complaint and can also be tracked to where it was produced.

Origin Pharma Packaging has expertise in child-resistant packaging and design and the company frequently engages with pharmaceutical companies to support the development of both its current and future packaging projects.

When first designing its child-resistant designs, Origin Pharma Packaging aimed to eradicate packaging ingestions. Now, the company shows the passion and ability to support current pharmaceutical packaging projects that require a re-design. The company’s close affiliation with the Child Resistant Packaging Group enables Origin to pre-test and make recommendations on designs prior to official safety-testing.

Medopac™ is closely related to Unopac™. This amber type-3 moulded glass medical bottle is also pre-capped with Medi-Loc® child safe caps. Often used by dispensing pharmacies and manufacturers developing specials, every bottle and cap has UV traceability coding, providing high-traceability. These pharma-compliant glass bottles contain up to 75% recycled glass content and they are tested to exceed the requirements of ISO
8317:2004 (child resistance) and BS1679: Part 6 (light transmission). Available with either tamper-evident or standard child-safe closures, these products are produced in a controlled environment, automatically capped, and are recyclable.

The Unopac™ tablet bottle is manufactured in controlled conditions from Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and PET-R materials before immediately pre-capped with Medi-Loc® child safe caps. Every bottle and cap is invisibly UV coded for complete pack traceability. The product meets and exceeds the requirements of ISO 8317:2004 (Child Resistant Packaging) and BS1679:8 (light transmission). The packs are recyclable and suitable for all solid dose medicine dispensing. In addition, its special formulation of PET polymer is also independently tested and approved for use with liquid medicine.
