Annex 1 and Continuing Monitoring Solutions

The upcoming revision and the current draft of Annex 1 indicate that continuous monitoring is a requirement in cleanrooms. The question is how to do that effectively and in an acceptable manner.

The upcoming revision and the current draft of Annex 1 indicate that continuous monitoring is a requirement in cleanrooms. The question is how to do that effectively and in an acceptable manner.

Traditionally, continuous sampling meant the use of settle plates. While this solution well in some areas such as hospitals, it is not adequate for critical environments. Settle plates don’t provide real-time data plus they design/use issues cause many false positives.

Looking at continuous sampling, there are now two options:

  • Active air sampling (pushing it to its limits)
  • Real-time testing methodology (but does not speciate)
