EGCG Purification from Green Tea Polyphenol Extract Using Liquid-Liquid Chromatography
This study investigated the purification of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an important green-tea catechin used in dietary supplements. A 50mg crude EGCG sample was processed on a 35ml miniLiLi column in ascending mode using a 1:1 MTBE/water solvent system.
The starting material had approximately 49.2 area% purity. Following CPC separation, the main EGCG fraction reached approximately 91.1 area% purity. The experiment demonstrates that EGCG can be efficiently enriched using liquid-liquid chromatography at the method-development scale.
Key result: EGCG purity increased from approximately 49.2% to 91.1%, demonstrating the potential to reduce manufacturing-scale purification costs.
