Fast, Flavouring Material Purification from Biological Sample using Liquid Liquid Chromatography
This application focused on rapidly enriching a target flavouring compound from a complex biological extract. The starting extract contained approximately 10% of the target compound.
The separation was performed on a 35ml miniLiLi column in ascending mode using a water/acetonitrile/hexane solvent system. Pre-, main, and post-fractions were collected and analysed by gas chromatography.
The target compound was enriched to as much as 90% purity, with combined fraction yields reaching up to 85%. The method therefore provided a fast and comparatively inexpensive approach to recovering the flavouring material.
Key result: The target flavouring compound was enriched from approximately 10% to as much as 90% purity, with yields of up to 85%.
